The realm of tenders and proposals presents numerous such opportunities. However, the choice between relying on internal capabilities and seeking professional expertise can be a pivotal one. An objective examination of the data underscores the profound influence of professional involvement in the proposal process.

The Landscape of Proposal Professionals

A brief analysis of LinkedIn indicates that there are 209 individuals in Ireland identified as ‘professional bid writers’. Surprisingly, only 23 among them possess a recognised qualification from the APMP in bidding. This observation suggests that a majority of the proposals are likely authored by individuals who do not conventionally identify as ‘proposal professionals’ and may have limited knowledge of evolving requirements, particularly around ESG, how proposals are being evaluated and what in particular is resonating.

Dissecting the Winning Percentages

A majority of the successful tenders in Ireland are attributed to non-expert authors. Contrastingly, individuals with specialised expertise secure wins for nearly twice the number of tenders they undertake compared to their non-specialised peers. It can be postulated that non-experts might be achieving success in tenders with a less competitive field, whereas experts excel in areas with intensified competition and elevated proposal standards.

On analysing the overall win rate of 44%, it is observed that 47% of companies secure wins for less than 40% of their bids, while 25% achieve success in over 60% of their submissions.

The Implications of Engaging Professionals

Engaging a proposal professional, particularly one with APMP qualifications, can potentially enhance the win rate of an organisation by an approximate 25%. This translates to an additional successful tender for every five submissions. Moreover, an adept proposal expert can refine the proposal process and elevate the initial evaluation scores of the tender.

Would the infusion of professional expertise augment the quality and success rate of your proposals? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
